Employment Initiatives

The Kaiela Institute has developed a collaborative model that works across community service providers and businesses and industry to provide jobs and targeted support to community members.

The KEEP project

The KEEP project provided 80 three month fixed term work opportunities to 50 local Aboriginal people aged between 20 and 40. The program recognised that while there are many employment and education programs for young people in the Goulburn Valley, people over 20 tend to miss out. They are a critically important group of people that have enormous influence in the community. Many are parents whose children develop expectations about work and study in the home.

Employment Summit
2013

The Institute hosted a regional employment summit as a lead up event to the 2013 Oration to generate greater momentum around the regional education and employment agenda and formally launch the employment partnership between the State Government, Wesfarmers and the Institute.

“Parents in our community help set the future ambitions of children and young people. They establish norms in households and wider family groups. A working future is essential for the well-being of the community. This project is where aspiration meets with opportunity”

- Paul Briggs speaking about KEEP Project
